Last Saturday {before the crazy snow} we stopped at an Estate Sale in our area.  Not too much interesting really until I spotted this box {I have a serious thing for boxes}.

This one is so cool . . .

From what I have gathered, this is a Dennison's Handy Box No 61 probably from the 1920's but I don't really know for sure.  Most of the little boxes still have their contents including gummed labels, string, paper clips etc.
This is an advertisement from a Business Magazine.

It really is a Handy Box!

It's all about kitty.  He has a facination with water, particularly running water.  He follows me into the bathroom and demands that I turn on the faucet.

He likes a glass of water from time to time too.

Crazy kitty.

Today was a great day to be a dog!

and a great day for me to be home to open the door for him about a million times

Photo of the day

Technically . . . I shot these on Friday but I didn't get a chance to look at them yet.  We had a touch of the Spring Fever and decided to take a short drive down to "the Cape".

The levy wall is long mural depicting scenes from history, Lewis & Clark, Trail of Tears etc.  It's really pretty cool.  Not sure where Cape Girardeau is?  Here's a map.

We had lunch, explored a few antique stores in the little downtown.  I had Coke with lunch but I'm not sure if I had the 3 cent plain or the 5 cent.

We took the long way home and stopped at an overlook.  Want to know where?  Sure you do, here's a map.
When traveling with a map guy you always take a picture of the maps.  And the food.

Plus if you are married to a geology/map guy you must seek out all geologic features.  This one was pretty cool.  Not all of them are trust me on this.

Now if you are travelling with me . . . you have to make a U - Turn if you see something cool on the side of the road.  Check out this little shed/garage.  It's decorated with bottlecaps.  Neat.

It was a fun little trip outside the city limits.  See you tomorrow.

Photo of the day, a day late.

Forgot about posting yesterday.  sleep deprived lately and sinus headache. yuck.

Anyway, I was excited to share this little gem from my friend Judy C.  These "Toilet Paper Roll" minis have been going around the internet for awhile but I had never seen one in person until Judy brought in this one.

She made a beautiful little mini book with a Zutter Coil Binding.  I love this!  It's perfect and I want to make one!  I'm not sure where Judy found her inspiration for her project but I googled and found this great tutorial:
Toilet Paper Roll Mini Album.

Thanks Judy for sharing!

Photo of the day {sort of}

When soldier son came home in January for his R&R from overseas, the guys kept his "homecoming" a secret from Mom.  I had no clue at all until he showed up @ the door.  Tom filmed the entire thing from behind me today was the first time I watched the little video.

Look what my friend Bonnie gave me the other day.

Bonnie is a long time crafter and in addition to her scrappy,  papercrafting skills she is a very talented painter.  She made these adorable little bunny ornaments for Easter.  Of course these darling bunny faces do not begin to show off her art work but I just wanted to share.

Bonnie also makes these clever Zipper Flower Embellishments too.  I haven't decided just what I'm going to attach this to yet but it is very cool isn't it?  I'm so glad I get to hang out with such cool and talented people~

If you know me . . .

you know how I feel about my coffee.

Tom sent me this good news yesterday:

5 health reasons to not quit coffee

1. It protects your heart: Moderate coffee drinkers (1 to 3 cups/day) have lower rates of stroke than noncoffee drinkers, an effect linked to coffee’s antioxidants. Coffee has more antioxidants per serving than blueberries, making it the biggest source of antioxidants in American diets. All those antioxidants may help suppress the damaging effect of inflammation on arteries. Immediately after drinking it, coffee raises your blood pressure and heart rate, but over the long term, it actually may lower blood pressure as coffee’s antioxidants activate nitric oxide, widening blood vessels.

2. It diverts diabetes: Those antioxidants (chlorogenic acid and quinides, specifically) play another role: boosting your cells’ sensitivity to insulin, which helps regulate blood sugar. In fact, people who drink 4 or more cups of coffee each day may have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, according to some studies. Other studies have shown that caffeine can blunt the insulin-sensitivity boost, so if you do drink several cups a day, try mixing in decaf occasionally.

3. Your liver loves it: OK, so the research here is limited, but it looks like the more coffee people drink, the lower their incidence of cirrhosis and other liver diseases. One analysis of nine studies found that every 2-cup increase in daily coffee intake reduced liver cancer risk by 43 percent. Again, it’s those antioxidants—chlorogenic and caffeic acids—and caffeine that might prevent liver inflammation and inhibit cancer cells.
4. It boosts your brain power: Drinking between 1 and 5 cups a day (admittedly a big range) may help reduce risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as Parkinson’s disease, studies suggest. Those antioxidants may ward off brain cell damage and help the neurotransmitters involved in cognitive function to work better.

5. It helps your headaches: And not just the withdrawal headaches caused by skipping your daily dose of caffeine! Studies show that 200 milligrams of caffeine—about the amount in 16 ounces of brewed coffee—provides relief from headaches, including migraines. Exactly how caffeine relieves headaches isn’t clear. But scientists do know that caffeine boosts the activity of brain cells, causing surrounding blood vessels to constrict. One theory is that this constriction helps to relieve the pressure that causes the pain, says Robert Shapiro, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of neurology and director of the Headache Clinic at the University of Vermont Medical School.

But if you like coffee and you can tolerate it well, enjoy it...without the guilt.

I'm Happy!

Great class tonight with my Preserving the Past girls!  Thanks to everyone that attended, we had a great time and lots of laughs too.  It was a cold miserable day today, I mostly stayed inside though I did run out to pick up a new tablecloth to bring some sunshine into my kitchen today.

Love the chickens . . .

Today's Photo

THE MAN ROOM

At our house the Man Room doesn't have a TV or a bar.

The Man Room at our house has ginourmous speakers,

1000s of CDS,

electric guitars, amps, and a dozen or so other instruments.
They are impossible to clean around . . . They are on the walls,

on the floor and even in another room.
Some of these things I've never even heard of.

Like a bouzouki.

Needless to say we never have a shortage of music around here.

More tomorrow . . . I hope . . . unless I have Spring fever or something.
